According to quotes from The Athletic via Utd Report, Manchester United defender and long-time servant Phil Jones will not be having a testimonial despite his many years donning red – citing a theory that not many fans would actually turn up to see him off.
The defender signed from Blackburn Rovers back in 2011, going on to make 220 appearances for the Red Devils and winning four trophies – including a Premier League title during Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge.
As a result, supporters have felt bad for the 27-year-old over not having a testimonial due to the fact that, for many of those seasons, he was deemed a liability by some sections of fans and media alike.
His career at United hasn’t been all bad, though – with numerous high points including a decent 2017/18 season where he started most games and managed to add up a 91.2% pass success rate.
