As announced by Crystal Palace on January 13th, Victor Camarasa’s loan spell at Selhurst Park has come to an end.The Spaniard initially signed on a season-long deal from Real Betis back in the summer, although his stay in south London was cut short after he played just five Premier League minutes for the Eagles. He was also left out of the matchday squad on 11 occasions from 22 league outings this term, and the midfielder will now spend the remainder of the campaign with La Liga side Deportivo Alaves.
Four days after the south Londoners announced his departure, the 25-year-old has spoken out.
What did he say?
In a post from his official Twitter account, Camarasa wrote: “Even though things didn’t go as expected, I just wanted to thank the fans, the club and my teammates for the support during this period. It’s a shame that I wasn’t given the chance to prove myself and show my desire to succeed @CPFC! All the best, I will always support you from a distance. Good luck with the rest of the season.”
Unnecessary but classy statement
Presumably, nobody would’ve blamed Camarasa for leaving without saying a word given his awful treatment by the club.
As aforesaid, Roy Hodgson only gave him five minutes in the Premier League – coming at the end of a game that was all but lost in the first half, a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham – while he was also left out of 50% of the Eagles’ league matches.
He really wasn’t given a fair chance to prove himself at all, hence making his lovely farewell message an unnecessary one seeing as Hodgson, Steve Parish or Dougie Freedman don’t really deserve any kind words from him having wasted six months of his career.
Call yourself a Premier League expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
While it remains unnecessary, Camarasa’s statement oozes class as, in truth, he could’ve easily aimed fire at the club, although he decided to act professionally and admirably despite things truly not going to plan.
In other news, these Crystal Palace fans have reacted to a “silly “transfer update on Christian Benteke…
