Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor feels that current Premier League leaders Manchester City will suffer due to the loss of Yaya Toure to the African Cup of Nations in the new year, and that Spurs can continue to improve.
The athletic striker is on loan at White Hart Lane from Roberto Mancini’s side, and has led Spurs to third place in the English top flight, but the chasing pack all know that City are the team to beat.
Despite City’s strong start to the campaign, Adebayor feels that being without key players in the new year may hurt their chances.
“We are going to attack in January,” he told The Daily Mail.
“They have two players going to Africa Cup of Nations. Kolo Toure is not playing a lot but he is a great player and Yaya Toure has been amazing for them this year. We have everyone here.
“Are they going to keep their football the way it is now until the end of the season? I don’t know. We will have to wait and see.
“For me, game after game, Tottenham is improving. They have better players this year. We are improving. We have to keep our confidence high,” he stated.
Spurs take on Norwich at Carrow Road on Boxing Day before playing Swansea on Saturday, and the African frontman is targeting three points in each fixture.
“I’m not saying they’re going to be easy games but if you want to be in the top four these are the types of game you have to win, home or away.
“We have to win those games, no matter what it takes if we are going to finish in the top four. Otherwise, forget about it,” he concluded.
