As reported by The Daily Mirror, Arsenal are facing a fight to hold on to one of their top players with the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the market to sign Mesut Ozil.
What’s the word?
Ozil has demonstrated again this season that he is one of Arsenal’s most effective and important players but that relationship could be coming to an end if these Champions League giants get their way.
The Mirror reckon that a number of clubs are tracking the German international including Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
Ozil has just 18 months left on his contract and is holding out for a wage of £250,000 per week to stay at the Emirates according the paper.
With a number of clubs interested in his services and given his importance to Wenger’s side, Ozil has a lot of bargaining power as talks continue about extending his stay at the club.
Key man
In three-and-a-half seasons at the Emirates, Ozil has proven himself to be the man Wenger can rely on most to create opportunities and goals in the Arsenal line-up.
He was the club’s player of the season last year and made an incredible 19 Premier League assists, a higher return than anyone in the division.
With nine goals and seven assists already this term, it’s clear he is still one of the most vital components of Wenger’s set-up.
Should they lose Ozil he won’t be easily replaced, even if they receive mega-money for him, and we reckon Arsenal should think seriously about offering him a new bumper deal to retain his ability.
Over his 140 appearances for the club, there’s rarely been a player who has performed better for the Gunners.
