According to The Daily Mail, Wolves have opened talks with West Brom to sign Salomon Rondon this summer.
What’s the word?
Rondon had a brilliant season whilst on loan at Newcastle, developing into one of the most physically dangerous forwards in the Premier League. In total, he notched 11 goals, the highest number he’s managed to reach since arriving in England from Zenit.
However, after his successful loan spell, he’ll now go back to his parent club West Brom. It’s not looking as though he’ll stick around for long, though, as the Venezuelan has a £16.5m release clause in his contract, per The Daily Mail.
And the same report claims that Wolves have now opened talks with their Midlands rivals to sign the player. This comes after the Baggies failed to achieve promotion. But things may not be straightforward with Newcastle also having a desire to keep him in the North East.
Perfect for Jota
At first glance, it may look like a bad decision to bring Rondon to Molineux. After all, he’s another player, like Raul Jimenez, who is good at holding the ball up.
The former is considerably better at that aspect of the game though and could give Nuno Santo a different option, especially against teams who like to sit deep.
Wolves have had numerous problems trying to break down defensive opposition this term but that issue could be put to bed if Rondon signed. He’d also be capable of making another of their forwards even better.
The 29-year-old is terrific at bringing others into play, and as such, it could open gaps up in behind for the likes of Diogo Jota to thrive.

We’ve already seen the phenomenal partnership Rondon established alongside a more technical striker in Ayoze Perez, and a similar effect can be had at Wolves if he played next to Jota.
The Portuguese star has already been incredible when paired with Jimenez, but he could now be on the verge of climbing to a new level.
